Hapay – To flourish or offer a handkerchief, 

hat or glass of wine to somebody 

as a sign of invitation. 


Slide – To glide foot smoothly along the floor. 

The movement may be finished wiith or 

without transfer of weight.


Jump to stride -spring in both feet, lifting the whole body


This flirtatious dance called Cariñosa is known 

throughout the Philippines. 

Cariñosa means affectionate, lovable, or amiable.


Saludo– Partners bow to each other, to the audience, 

opposite dancers, or to the neighbors with feet together. 


Outside Foot - The foot away from one's partner, 

when partners stand side by side. 


Outside hand - The hand away from one's partner, 

when partners stand side by side. 


step - A movement where a person advances or 

moves one foot to another resting place.


Kumintang– moving the hand from the wrist either in a clockwise 

or counterclockwise direction.


to swing the arm downward-upward passing in front of the body 

as if scooping, the trunk is bent forward following 

the movement of the arm doing the "salok". 


cross arms A dance position when the girl is at the right side 

and hold the right arm of partner with her left hand at the sides.


Arms in Lateral Position – both arms are at one side, 

either sideward right or left. 

This may be done at shoulder chest or waist level.


A hop is technically defined as a springing from one foot 

and landing on that same foot. 

A leap is a springing from one foot but landing on the other foot.


cross sitting - It comes from the long sitting position where the legs 

are cross and in front in a tailor-like fashion.


feet together - feet are about one inch apart


stride position - the feet are about 12 inches wide


half knee bend - feet together, knees bend to about 45 degrees angle,

feet flat on the floor, body is erect


long sitting position - sitting with legs extended forward toes pointed trunk erect

and hands on hips


hook sitting position - sit on buttocks, bend knees to the body. 

trunk erect. Hands on shin of the legs


long siting rest position - legs and toes extended forward, 

hands at the rear on the floor. Elbow and body straigth


Tuck sitting position - sit on buttocks, knees are bent close to the body

round back so that the forehead and knees are in contact. holding shin


Arms in reverse “T” - The arms are placed at side horizontal, 

elbow bent at right angles, forearm parallel 

          to the head.
