What is Mountaineering?
Britannica (Smith etal) defines mountaineering or mountain climbing as a "sport in attaining or attempting to get high points in mountain regions, mainly for the pleasure of the climb.
Mountaineering differs from the outdoor sports in that nature alone provides the field of action and just all about the challenges of the participant."
In European context, mountaineering is often referred to as ALPINISM which means climbing with difficulty, such as the Alps. It is more challenging for of hiking where one must use technical equipment to reach higher altitudes.
Enthusiasts see this as a sport, a profession, or a recreation as is challenges one's determination, capacity, and skills.
There are basic forms of climbing depending on the track condition, namely: rock climbing, where it involves slopes and avalanches; snow and ice climbing; and mixed climbing combining rocky and ice routes.
Locally, mountaineering is hiking or trekking to a specific outdoor destination, may it be the peak of maintain or a waterfall found in the forest. The Philippines is bestowed with mountain and hills found every region of the country.
Each mountain or hill carries its own characteristics and level of difficulty. Climbing mountains and reaching the peaks do not just entail a simple walk, but they also encompass a wide range of outdoor skills.

Mount Pinatubo is an active stratovolcano in the Zambales Mountains in Luzon in the Philippines. Located on the tripoint of Zambales, Tarlac and Pampanga provinces, most people were unaware of its eruptive history before the pre-eruption volcanic activity in early 1991. Dense forests, which supported a population of several thousand indigenous Aetas, heavily eroded and obscured Pinatubo.
